Karen Haspolat is a Quality Improvement Officer with East Lothian Council, dedicated to driving continuous improvement across the education system. She serves as the link officer for three school clusters, working across sectors from 3–18 to support collaborative, evidence‑informed improvement.  Her role involves analysing performance information to develop and promote effective strategies that both support and challenge schools in raising attainment and improving outcomes for children and young people. As the strategic lead for learning, teaching and assessment, she manages a team of skilled practitioners who work directly with class teachers to ensure all learners benefit from high‑quality learning experiences.

With extensive experience in curriculum development, particularly in Numeracy and Mathematics, Karen is also a strong advocate for strengthening STEM education across schools. She is committed to building capacity within the education workforce through high‑quality professional learning, supporting practitioners to develop the skills, confidence, and creativity needed to meet diverse learner needs.  She works closely with colleagues and school leaders to foster an empowered education system where leadership of learning and learner voice sit at the heart of improvement.
