Iain is currently a Research Professor of Molecular Microbiology at the University of Strathclyde. He has had a distinguished career relating to his B.Sc (Hons(I), Biochemistry) (1974) and PhD (Micral Physiology) (1977), both at the University of Glasgow. Since then, Ian has held various positions, including Principal Research Scientist with Pfizer Global Research, lecturer at the University of Glasgow, Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Strathclyde and more recently, Intermin CEO of Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre.
Iain has a strong interest in STEM and has been an avid supporter of SSERC for many years. He has been involved in a number of different national STEM-related activities and programmes, including Co-Chairing the Scottish Government’s STEM Advisory Group and STEM Strategy Advisory Group.
In Iain’s own words, ‘my personal contribution to STEM is to promote the sorts of incentives that I received; to support the promotion of discovery; to lobby for free access to that knowledge; and to assist the teaching profession in inspiring our next generation of scientists and engineers.’
