SSERC runs a number of courses on health and safety topics. Some, such as the Health and Safety Update and Risk Assessment courses, are general. Others, like Working with Radioactive Sources, are concerned with a specific topic.

All SSERC’s health and safety courses have something in common. They are concerned with what goes on in schools, whether in the laboratory, prep-room or workshop. Examples, advice, resources and protocols are all relevant to the STEM education workplace. The emphasis is on enabling safe, exciting, engaging practical work to take place, on identifying significant hazards and managing risk, and on doing so without generating a mountain of unnecessary paperwork. SSERC courses are not passive – expect to be involved in discussion and, where appropriate, practical work.
