This practical metalworking skills course is designed to equip teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver the SQA National 4/5 Practical Metalworking Course effectively. Participants will gain hands-on experience in various metalworking techniques, tools, and processes commonly required for the successful completion of the SQA syllabus.

The course is delivered to build confidence and skill levels through participation in a number of practical tasks and projects. Emphasis will be placed on safety procedures, practical demonstrations, and instructional methodologies to enhance teaching effectiveness.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:-

  • Develop competency in the safe and efficient use of metalworking hand tools and equipment. 
  • Prepare and properly mark out metal sections effectively.
  • Gain proficiency in essential metalworking techniques, including cutting, shaping, joining, and finishing
  • Set up and perform drilling operations safely. 
  • Develop skills and knowledge of safe working practices.
  • Enhance problem-solving abilities in addressing common challenges encountered in metalworking projects.
  • Develop knowledge of sustainability issues in a practical metalworking context.

This course is GTCS accredited, i.e., it is aligned to the GTCS Standards for Full Registration and the National Model for Professional Learning.
