Despite global warming, changing weather patterns could mean that Scotland will actually get colder winters – like those of 2009 and 2010.
Prolonged low temperatures cause a lot of economic problems to the country: damage to roads, injuries due to slipping and people simply being unable to get in to work.
This activity looks at the chemistry behind the de-icing of roads and runways that is so vital to keep our road system functioning and our country working.
