National 5 Electronics
 
This FREE two-day course is designed to support teachers who are currently teaching, or considering introducing, the National 5 Electronics course. It will be extremely beneficial to those who are new to designing, constructing and soldering electronic circuits, or who need a refresher. There will be short presentations over the two days, but the majority of the time will be spent constructing circuits - you will be provided with kit to complete a full project similar to what pupils need to do, and you might even finish it over the two days. We will also have a Q&A session delivered by the Qualifications Scotland principal assessor and verifier for the course.
 
Activities will cover:
  • Analysing an electronics problem and designing a solution
  • Circuit simulation software
  • Logic gates, op amps, comparators, timers
  • Moving from circuit diagrams to prototypes to stripboard layout
  • Safe, effective soldering and wiring
  • Fault testing using multimeters, logic probes and CROs
  • Qualifications Scotland requirements

Accommodation

Overnight accommodation between day 1 and day 2 can be provided on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at a local hotel.  This will be charged at £130.00 per person, per night. 
 
For those people whose School is over 150 miles and/or 2.5 hours (by car) away from SSERC, overnight accommodation for the nights of 27 and 28 January will be provided at a local hotel.  This accommodation will be offered free of charge through bursary funding received from Ocean Winds UK.  

Location

The course will be held at SSERC in Dunfermline. Our SSERC buildings are at 2 Pitreavie Court, Dunfermline, KY11 8UU. SSERC is a short (5-10 minutes) walk from Rosyth railway station and close to the end of the A823(M) spur off Junction 2 of the M90 motorway. Car journey times (approximately): Edinburgh – 30 min; Glasgow – 60 min; Aberdeen – 2.5 hours; Inverness – 3 hours.
Kindly funded by Ocean Winds UK, the course fee is offered free of charge.
