Mission Briefing: Investigating Space Across the Curriculum

Are you ready to bring the wonders of the universe into your classroom?

Join us for an interactive, online STEM Space session designed specifically for Early Years and Primary practitioners.
Space is a powerful "hook" for learning, and this session will equip you with a suite of practical, low-cost, and high-impact investigations. We will demonstrate 3–4 activities that show clear progression through CfE Early, First, and Second Levels, linking directly to Science (SCN) and Numeracy (MNU) benchmarks.

What We Will Explore:
  • Cosmic Foundations: Exploring how to introduce the Sun, Moon, and Stars through sensory and visual inquiry, building a solid foundation for understanding the wonders of our night sky.
  • The Scale of the Universe: Navigating the vastness of the Solar System, focusing on creative ways to help learners grasp the relative size and scale of the planets using accessible, everyday resources.
  • The Science of Exploration: Delving into the mechanics of Space Travel and Gravity, investigating the fundamental physics that allow us to leave Earth and explore the final frontier.
  • Cutting-Edge Discovery: Using modern milestones—like the incredible imagery from the James Webb Space Telescope—to drive interdisciplinary learning across literacy, numeracy, and meta-skill development.
  • Benchmarks in Orbit: Practical guidance on mapping these universal themes to CfE Experiences and Outcomes, ensuring your space context provides robust evidence of pupil progression.
Leave the session with a digital link to further ideas and resources and the confidence to lead your own space investigation next week!
