Introducing indi (SSERCMeet)
The following professional learning opportunity from SSERC includes the loan of an entire class kit of indi robots, which will be posted out to you for use during the SSERC Meets and will be loaned out for around 16 school weeks. This will allow delegates to instantly apply their learning in their setting, focussing on small groups, class or whole school implementation, as well as sharing with staff in their school.
This fully funded SSERC Meet opportunity is spread over several online twilight sessions, and while there will be one main applicant for the place, it will allow as many staff as you wish to attend the sessions, and this is actively encouraged so that as many staff/learners as possible can benefit from engagement with the loan kits.
The course will be broken down into these key areas:
Through these sessions we will provide an introduction to Sphero indi and how this fantastic and engaging resource can be used in the Nursery & Primary setting to enhance engagement in Computing Science principles and concepts.
We will encourage hands on practical experience with indi and other unplugged CS resources throughout the 3 sessions, provide resources to support implementation, and come together for a reflective final showcase session to share the impact of the resource in your setting.
There will also be a focus on developing an understanding of different pedagogical approaches, whilst considering the impact of play-based and cross-curricular/contextualised learning.
This is a fantastic opportunity to engage with a resource that will enhance not only Computing Science outcomes, but also focus on developing learner meta skills of problem solving and critical thinking, collaboration and communication, resilience and adaptability, sense making and creativity.
If you are looking to enhance your digital focus in your school, get staff engaged with Computing Science, have Technologies on your School Improvement Plan or are working towards your Digital Schools Award Scotland, then this course will provide the learning and the resources to make a huge impact.
Spaces are limited due to the amount of resources we provide to schools, so apply below now to ensure you can take advantage of this opportunity.
*indi is generally used as a completely unplugged resource, and while not essential the Sphero Edu Jr. app is an add on that we will explore briefly during our third session, so you may wish to have this downloaded onto your school devices if you wish to use it during your two-term loan period.
Closing Date for Applications is 19th October 2026
For Educators working in and around Early and First level CfE, although this resource could be used to introduce Computing Science concepts across the entire primary setting.
This exciting professional learning practical course provides the opportunity for you to try out engaging STEM activities, inclusive of Computing Science elements, and to consider how they can be transferred to your own setting.
