Cold Metalwork Forming is a one-day practical course designed to support teachers and technicians delivering Broad General Education (BGE) metalworking activities and relevant aspects of the SQA Practical Metalworking Course.
The course focuses exclusively on cold metal forming processes, enabling participants to develop the skills and confidence required to safely set up and use cold metalworking equipment within an educational workshop environment. Participants will work with a range of “Metalcraft” forming tools, including rollers, benders, formers, and hand tools commonly used in school and college settings.
Cold metalworking offers significant educational benefits, including improved control, accuracy, and repeatability, making it particularly suitable for BGE learners. Working metal cold allows learners to focus on process, design development, and safe working practices without the additional risks associated with heat-based processes.
Emphasis is placed on the correct selection and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), risk awareness, and compliance with current educational Health & Safety legislation.
This course is suitable for teachers and technicians with little or no prior experience of cold metal forming techniques.
Participants will spend one full day in the workshop exploring a range of cold metal forming techniques and will produce a completed metal artefact, supported by several practice pieces.

Course Date: 25th November 2026
Closing Date: 23rd October 2026
