This 3-part course offers a full day of face-to-face professional learning at SSERC in Dunfermline, 2 hours of self-study, and an online afternoon session delivered on Teams.
The course includes a variety of activities to develop knowledge, skills and confidence in teaching about the human body at First and Second Level. With a focus on the Biological Systems Organiser within CfE, we will explore activities which could be used to help to meet a range of Es and Os across First and Second Level.
Delegates will receive resources to take back to their settings to support teaching and learning.

Your setting pays for the course in advance. Once the course activities and evaluations are completed, the course cost will be reimbursed in full by STEM Learning, usually around 8 weeks after the course has been completed.

Part 2 – Gap Task – to be completed between 10 May – 29 May 2024
The Gap Task will be explained in further detail during the Training Day. Help and support to complete this will be provided by the SSERC Team.
You will be asked to allocate a total of 2 hours to complete the Gap Task – this is split into 2 sections.
1. Self-Study practical activity: Select and carry out at least one practical activity using the selection of resources provided on the Training Day. (1 hour)
2. Reflect on the activities you have seen during the Training Day / Self-Study practical activity. Pick one activity to try with your learners or share with colleagues. Produce one PowerPoint slide with a few lines of notes about what you did and the outcome and impact, to share with other delegates in Part 3. Slide to be submitted by 29 May 2024. (1 hour)
Part 3 – Online session on Teams – Friday 31 May 2024

14:45 – 16:00 Microbes and Disease workshop (Microbes for Minors SSERC Meet – an alternative will be provided if you have previously attended this SSERC Meet)

SSERC in Dunfermline. The SSERC buildings are at 1-3 Pitreavie Court, Dunfermline, KY11 8UU. SSERC is a short (5-10 mins) walk from Rosyth railway station and close to the end of the A823(M) spur off Junction 2 of the M90 motorway. Car journey times (approximately): Edinburgh – 30 min; Glasgow – 60 min; Aberdeen – 2.5 hours; Inverness – 3 hours.
