  SSERC offers a vast portfolio of professional learning (PL) programmes for STEM educators in Scotland. Our curricular based PL is offered to everyone: childminders, early years workers, primary and secondary staff as well as lecturers, technicians and those who work with young people in non-formal settings such as youth workers and in the CLD sector.

STEM Engagement

  SSERC offers a wide range of STEM engagement and enrichment programmes to further increase access to, and participation in STEM, well beyond the classroom setting. There are leadership opportunities for young people with the Young STEM Leader Programme as well as programmes to link educators in all sectors with industry partners and STEM Ambassadors to create enhanced STEM learning events for young people in Scotland.

Data Science for NPA and BGE Levels

A one-day introduction to data science at BGE and NPA levels

Ready your learners for a data-driven world!

Data science is the ability to ask questions, collect, analyse, interpret, and communicate stories about data. As technology makes it easier to collect vast amounts of data, the skills to understand data and use it to solve problems are becoming increasingly valuable.

These skills are helpful not only in mathematics and computing but also across the arts and sciences.

Dr. Jasmeen Kanwal and Kate Farrell will teach the course, which has been developed in collaboration with data scientists, industry colleagues, and educational experts, providing an innovative and exciting opportunity for professional development.

Participants will learn how to integrate data literacy and data science across BGE, as well as in their senior secondary curriculum, within their subject.

Teachers across all subject areas are welcome!

This course is GTCS accredited, i.e., it is aligned to the GTCS Standards for Full Registration and the National Model for Professional Learning.
