  SSERC offers a vast portfolio of professional learning (PL) programmes for STEM educators in Scotland. Our curricular based PL is offered to everyone: childminders, early years workers, primary and secondary staff as well as lecturers, technicians and those who work with young people in non-formal settings such as youth workers and in the CLD sector.

STEM Engagement

  SSERC offers a wide range of STEM engagement and enrichment programmes to further increase access to, and participation in STEM, well beyond the classroom setting. There are leadership opportunities for young people with the Young STEM Leader Programme as well as programmes to link educators in all sectors with industry partners and STEM Ambassadors to create enhanced STEM learning events for young people in Scotland.

Assignments for Senior Phase Biology

Sponsorship cost £1500

This brand-new course aims to support teachers in delivering senior-phase Biology assignments. It will include sessions aligned to the N5, Higher, and Higher Human course specifications.

Many of the practical sessions will be applicable for AH Biology projects and, of course, provide ideas that can be utilised at various points throughout BGE and Senior phase courses to enhance curriculum delivery.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, participants will be able to: 

demonstrate an enhanced portfolio of ideas for practical work across senior phase biology courses 
use a wider variety of teaching strategies to promote learning in science including demonstrations and scientific enquiry 
exemplify the importance of contemporary science and its applications in the context of the curriculum  
network with fellow professionals and explore mechanisms for ongoing support 
understand the range of opportunities within the wider STEM engagement portfolio which SSERC offers
evaluate their own professional learning and its impact on learners

This course is GTCS accredited, i.e., it is aligned to the GTCS Standards for Full Registration and the National Model for Professional Learning.
