Cover Competition

To celebrate the organisation's 60th anniversary, we are holding a competition for learners to design a digital image that could be used as the front or back cover of our 60th anniversary STEM Bulletin—a special anniversary edition. Short, Short Story Competition

To celebrate SSERC's 60th anniversary, we have launched a competition open to all those who are or have been associated with SSERC eg delegates, staff from partner organisations, Board members, staff, For more information, see the image below. You can get a copy of the poster here.

60th Anniversary Activity: Tuesday 2nd September 2025

The STEM Engagement Team will share excerpts from the Time Capsule Gallery showcasing thoughts from Young STEM Leaders and STEM Ambassadors on STEM in 2085 (60 years into the future). Entries have been collected on the themes: 

  • Health 

  • Gadgets 

  • Space 

  • Power  

  • Planet Earth

SSERC 60th Anniversary activity: Wednesday 3rd September 2025

The Early Years, Primary and Digital teams will be running a 60-minute webinar on Support for STEM at Early, First and Second Level.

SSERC 60th Anniversary Activity: Thursday 4th September 2025

The Physics team at SSERC have been busy with all things satellites, including the broadcasting of an SSERC 60th Anniversary message.

A pre-recorded tutorial will be broadcast, encouraging learners to plot their own Doppler curve from satellite data. There will be a message sent from a satellite. The videos will all be linked to the topics covered in the 60th anniversary Bulletin. 

This commences at noon and can be accessed via a link that will be made available  on this page, as of 11.45 am on Thursday ,4th September.

SSER 60th Anniversary Activity: Thursday 4th September 2025

The Chemistry team at SSERC will be delivering a 60-minute webinar. The session will include: 

  • A brief introduction to what we do. 
  • A session relating to the practical activities published in the 60th anniversary Bulletin. 
  • A series of videos of the experiments taking place is linked with live introductions and explanations.

Starting at 3 pm, join our Technology team as they take you on  a guided tour of our technology facilities and our offering to support STEM

60th Anniversary Activty: Friday 5th September 2025

Our Biology Education Manager will be broadcasting a live lecture titled: ‘How to  Find Love as a Honeybee’  

This will be live-streamed from the Orkney International Science Festival  https://oisf.org/fest-event/how-to-find-love-as-a- honeybee/ 

The lecture will commence from 5:15pm to 6:15pm and can be accessed via a link that will be made available on this page, as of 17.00 pm  on Friday 5th September.
