The Chemistry - related units in theis course are:
H21L 74 Chemistry in Society
and
J3RF 44 Science Practical and Investigation Skills
This Unit is the one that is the Chemistry in Society unit in National 4 Chemistry.
SSERC Resources to support this can be found here
Outcome 1 - Record observations and measurements from four different scientific apparatus. The chemistry apparatus is:
burette, pipette, measuring cylinder, melting point apparatus, thermometer, syringe and balance.
Most of these are quite simple.
Outcome 2 - Carry out practical scientific procedures. Learners are required to perform four practical scientific procedures. The procedures should cover at least one practical from each of the areas of biology, chemistry and physics.
The chemistry ones are:
Reaction Rate - Effect of Concentration - one of the old Int 2 PPAs
Reaction Rate - Effect of Temperature - another one of the Old Int 2 PPAs
pH testing of solutions - one of the old Int 1 PPAs
Black Magic Experiment - a simple experiment involving chromatography.
Starch & Sugar testing in food - one of the old Int 1 PPAs
Distillation of Crude Oil - A teacher demonstration
Flame Colours - several different methods for carrying out flame tests
