The course will be held at SSERC in Dunfermline. Our SSERC buildings are at 2 Pitreavie Court, Dunfermline, KY11 8UU. SSERC is a short (5-10 minutes) walk from Rosyth railway station and close to the end of the A823(M) spur off Junction 2 of the M90 motorway. Car journey times (approximately): Edinburgh – 30 min; Glasgow – 60 min; Aberdeen – 2.5 hours; Inverness – 3 hours.

This unit is primarily intended to provide learners with the knowledge and skills in the safe use of chemistry laboratory chemicals, equipment and apparatus in an educational environment.

10:00 – 11:00 Preparing solutions – Sulphuric acid, Hydrogen Peroxide, Sodium hydroxide
11:00 – 11:30 Coffee
11:30 – 12:00 Primary standards and standardising solutions
12:00 – 1:00 COSHH, Chemicals and control measures
1:00 – 1:45 Lunch
1:45 – 2:30 Chemical labelling, storage and disposal
2:30 – 3:15 Gas production Hydrogen, Chlorine and Carbon Dioxide
3:15 – 4:00 Moles and calculations
Day 2

9:30 – 11:00 Titration
11:00 – 11:30 Coffee
11:30 – 1:00 Alkali metals, bromine water preparation and distillation set up.

Attend on 2 days and undergo both written and practical assessment.
