This course aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the functions, machining operations and safe use of this workshop machine. This course will allow teaching and support staff to successfully and safely implement lathe turning projects into the curriculum and /or deliver SQA based coursework.
This two day course will take place in an engineering workshop environment and will involve setting up and using a number different types of tooling to perform facing, taper, parallel, knurling, threading, drilling and parting processes.
All aspects of machine parts, functions and safe use will be covered. Practical work will be supported by demonstrations from professionals and key presentations will cover the theory and safety aspects.
One to one guidance when performing machining operation will also be provided.

For delegates who live more than 50 miles (or 90 minutes on public transport) from SSERC headquarters, overnight accommodation will be available at a local hotel.
The course will be held at SSERC in Dunfermline. Our SSERC buildings are at 2 Pitreavie Court, Dunfermline, KY11 8UU. SSERC is a short (5-10 minutes) walk from Rosyth railway station and close to the end of the A823(M) spur off Junction 2 of the M90 motorway. Car journey times (approximately): Edinburgh – 30 min; Glasgow – 60 min; Aberdeen – 2.5 hours; Inverness – 3 hours.
