A good demonstration to show the diffusion of ions in a liquid.
Small amounts of solid lead nitrate (or any other soluble lead compound) and potassium iodide are placed at opposite sides of a petri dish with a shallow layer of water.
The ions diffuse into the water and where they meet, a brilliant yellow patch of lead iodide appears.
