Scottish Universities Technologies School (SUTS)

The Scottish Universities Technologies School (SUTS) is a two-day professional learning event for secondary PGDE technology education students across Scotland.

SUTS is now in its third year and is hugely popular among initial teacher education (ITE) students and university lectures.

With a positive impact on student teacher subject knowledge, SUTS builds practitioner confidence and provides a unique opportunity to explore the value of career-long professional learning, identifying sources of effective, high-quality support for student teachers as they enter the profession. It is also hoped that this professional learning event is the first of many engagements between SSERC and those who attend, leading to career long uptake of our broad portfolio of professional learning offers. We are especially keen to see ITE students return in their NQT year to join some of the practical skills courses available; making SUTS an effective starting point in an ongoing relationship between SSERC and student/probationer teachers as they progress in their career.

Benefits of attending:

  • explore practical learning activities not usually available during your ITE programme

  • develop expertise in range of woodworking, metalworking skills, machining processes and ‘new’ technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting

  • networking opportunities with other students from across Scotland

  • learn how to access ongoing development opportunities on offer from SSERC

  • discover the Young STEM Leader Programme and register to become a trained Tutor Assessor

  • understand how STEM Ambassadors in Scotland can support you and your young people

  • meet a range of SSERC’s partner organisations who also support science educators in Scotland

Attendance at SUSS is by invitation from SSERC via your ITE Institution.
