This course is ideal for those teaching aspects of physics at BGE who are not specialist physics teachers.

Topics covered will include:

· The Van de Graff generator (safety, setting-up, safe use in the class, accessories, static electricity in general and fun experiments)

· Multimeters (selection ,set-up and use)

· Electrical circuits (series & parallel circuits, measuring current and voltage, simple theory and fault-finding in these circuits)

· Electrical equipment (selection, safety, power supplies and batteries)

· Forces (simple experiments to demonstrate tricky concepts, an introduction to Newton’s laws of motion, road safety, using newton balances)

· Magnets (selection, safety and usage)

· The electromagnetic spectrum (refraction of light, radiations beyond the visible range)

· Energy (including renewable sources of energy)

Course Costs: £400.00
Local Authority schools and FE colleges will be entitled to receive an ENTHUSE Bursary of £320 per delegate upon completion of the course. This grant is administered through the National STEM Learning Centre. 

For delegates who live more than 50 miles (or 90 minutes on public transport) from SSERC headquarters, overnight accommodation will be available. 

The course will be held at SSERC in Dunfermline. Our SSERC buildings are at 2 Pitreavie Court, Dunfermline, KY11 8UU. SSERC is a short (5-10 minutes) walk from Rosyth railway station and close to the end of the A823(M) spur off Junction 2 of the M90 motorway. Car journey times (approximately): Edinburgh – 30 min; Glasgow – 60 min; Aberdeen – 2.5 hours; Inverness – 3 hours.
