Academy9 is the educational aspect of the A9 Dualling Project, run by Transport Scotland.

On the week of 19th November 2018, Academy9 hosted a work experience week for six teachers from Bearsden Academy, Breadalbane Academy, Kingussie High School, Holy Cross Primary School and St Aidan’s Primary School.

They joined staff in Jacobs Glasgow office to work alongside industry professionals currently working in STEM related careers on the dualling of the A9. Each morning/afternoon session focussed on a different sector of STEM.  Throughout the week teachers had the opportunity to learn more about STEM careers available, pathways into them and most importantly, how they can take this information back to their schools to inform their pupils and other teachers. Sessions included EIA, Planning, Ecology, Heritage, 3D Visualisation, GIS, Civil, Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

They also visited Queensferry Crossing  to talk to bridge and road engineers working there as well as apprentices.

Teachers will complete their ENTHUSE funded Insight placement in March 2019. In addition to their final Professional Learning reflection session they will join the Academy9 Conference to share how they have disseminated their new found knowledge to their pupils.
