Programme for 2008 – 2009

Building on the evident success of the 2007 – 2008 CPD programme run by SSERC and its partners, we are offering residential courses to support Curriculum for Excellence. Each of these courses will follow an interactive approach with a focus on practical work and active learning. We will address how contemporary issues and the associated science can be explored through the curriculum.

Links to draft and then final programmes for individual courses will eventually appear on this page.

Course structure

Each of the courses will run in two parts. Typically, Part 1 of the courses will start on a Thursday morning and finish shortly after lunch on Saturday; Part 2 will run from Friday until Saturday.

Teaching approaches to support learning will be key features of these courses. Equipment and resources (whose value is in excess of the registration fee) to aid implementation in the classroom will be given to participants.

Participants will be expected to undertake, between Parts 1 and 2 of the course, a classroom-based project – the so-called ‘Gap Task’. Previous experience has shown that, as a result of this approach, participants have access to a host of new ideas and methodologies to use in their teaching.
